Things don’t always go according to plan, but this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I arrived in Southeast Asia thinking I would take care of some business during the summer months and then head to Europe once the busy season there subsides. Keep it simple, get things done. This didn’t quite happen.

Despite having lived many years in Southeast Asia, I haven’t spent much time in Thailand. It turns out that it’s pretty nice there.

In my travels I often avoid touristy places when I can. But sometimes there is a reason a place is popular. Ko Tao is one of these places. The sea is beautiful and clear, full of sea life and the island is a green tropical paradise with a relaxed party atmosphere that reminded me of Sihanoukville back in its glory days.

From schools of colorful fish, to sea turtles and reef sharks, Ko Tao is an exciting place to snorkel. It’s a place I’d love to return to and just spend a few weeks worth of lazy days snorkeling and having an evening drink at a beach bar.

Angie outgrew her swimsuit just in time for our arrival in Thailand, so she ended up with a new one that she didn’t like because it was so much trouble to tie up. We solved the problem though by just leaving it permanently tied and letting her squeeze it on and off.

Thailand was never part of the plan, but now I can’t forget how nice it is there. My plans are far from being clear at this point, but it is clear that Thailand will be a place to which we will return.
